Announcement

"Patients' Choice Award" by Vitals.com

Dr. Sam Naficy has been awarded the "Patients' Choice Award" by Vitals.com - a website dedicated to rating the quality of physicians across the country. Out of 720,000 physicians, only 5% received this honor.

Pre Nose Job Visit

Typically scheduled 2-3 weeks prior to the nose job procedure, a pre-nose job visit with your surgeon helps ensure a more safe and successful experience on the day of your nose job. A number of important issues are reviewed and discussed during this visit.

Nose job goals

The cosmetic goals of your nose job will be reviewed on your pre-nose job visit and the plans will be solidified. This gives one more chance for you and your surgeon to prioritize your desires and goals so that you can get the most out of your nose job procedure.

Decision to use grafts

Typical sites for nose job grafts include the septum, the ear, or the rib. Your surgeon will discuss the likelihood of grafting with you and discuss his/her preferred graft site.

Medical History

To ensure your safety, a thorough medical history is taken to make sure that you don't have any medical conditions that may pose a problem to you before, during, or after your nose job procedure. Your current health conditions as well as your medications and drug allergies will be reviewed.

Blood pressure

High blood pressure can increase your risk of bleeding (having a nosebleed) after a nose job. Your blood pressure will be checked during the pre-nose job visit and it will also be regularly checked during the nose job procedure.

Medications and Supplements to avoid

Some over the counter medications, prescription medications, and supplements can increase your risk of bleeding by "thinning" your blood. Aspirin is one of the most common blood thinners used and should be stopped at least 2 weeks before the nose job. You will be given a more complete list of medications to avoid [16kb PDF] at the time of your pre-nose job visit.

Nose job photographs

Photos are very helpful to the nose job surgeon in planning and performing your nose job procedure. Dr. Naficy routinely has the patient's photos up in the operating room to help him fine-tune his surgical plan.

Prescriptions

To help make your recovery as safe and comfortable as possible we prescribe a number of medications at the time of the pre-nose job visit. The include the following:

  • Anti-anxiety - typically Valium to help relax you before the procedure
  • Antibiotic - typically Keflex or Clindamycin to reduce risk of infection
  • Pain medication - typically Percocet, Vicodin, or Tylenol #3
  • Anti-nausea medication - typically Phenergan, Zofran, or Scopolamine
